Call for Nominations of Candidates for the Election of SCBA Officers

In accordance with the SCBA Bylaw, the Nomination Committee is calling for the nominations of candidates for the 2025 SCBA Election of the Chief Operating Officers (COOs) and membership of Council and Nomination and Membership Committees.

SCBA Statement on Recent Federal Policy Changes in Biomedical Research

The year 2025 has brought continuous challenges, including recent federal policy changes proposed by the new administration that deeply concern SCBA. These changes-such as freezes and delays in federal funding, halted grant reviews, and proposed reductions in both overall federal research funding and indirect cost allocations-have created a crisis in the U.S. biomedical research landscape. Further cuts to NIH and other federal science budgets only compound these challenges, threatening the stability and future of biomedical research in the United States.

Scientific progress and public health depend on sustained investment in research. Now more than ever, we must defend and strengthen the U.S. biomedical research ecosystem to maintain our leadership in science and medicine, before the damage becomes irreversible.

SCBA remains committed to promoting excellence in biomedical research, fostering collaboration among scientists, and advocating for policies that support innovation and discovery. We strongly urge policymakers to take immediate action to protect the integrity of federally funded biomedical research. This includes restoring and expanding funding for critical research agencies such as NIH and FDA to ensure continued scientific progress and innovation.

SCBA also encourages its members and the broader scientific community to engage with their state and federal representatives, voicing their concerns and advocating for policies that support biomedical research. Together, we can safeguard the future of scientific discovery and its vital contributions to public health.

19th SCBA/14th CBIS International Symposium to be held July 25-30

Science letter: US “China initiatives” promote racial bias

A letter published in Science Magzine was signed by SCBA, the Asian American Scholar Forum (AASF), the Chinese American Hematologist and Oncologist Network (CAHON), and the Chinese Biological Investigators Society (CBIS). This letter is in response to Mervis’s recent article in Science Magazine, “Pall of Suspicion: The National Institutes of Health’s “China initiative” has upended hundreds of lives and destroyed scores of academic careers,” which revealed widespread investigations of Chinese American scholars under the NIH.
